I wanted to give some suggestions for Tuesday's field trip. I am an avid hiker and very wise to the weather of our 4,000 foot mountains in NH. The weather in Franconia Notch can be a lot different than outside of the notch. (Often time’s weather systems linger longer in the notch.) I’m hoping for a beautiful day, but with this being said it is important that students and parent chaperones are prepared for the day and know what to expect.
The difference between the weather at the base of Cannon and at the Summit will/can be about a 20 degree difference. So if it’s 75 degrees at the base, we can expect 55 degrees at the summit. If the wind is blowing at 10mph that means it will feel like 45 degrees at the summit. I urge students and parents to be prepared as it’s the difference between being comfortable and miserable. Windbreakers and wind pants are great because they can block the wind and rain. Fleece is better than cotton. When cotton gets wet kids will be cold.
The weather here in New Boston and in Franconia Notch for the Flume and Cannon trip will vary. For example, Friday, June 8th it was 78 degrees in New Boston by 1pm and at that time in Franconia Notch it was 64 degrees. The summit of Cannon it was 49 degrees with gusts of 9mph making the temperatures feel like 40 degrees. Here is a website for you to check with weather for Franconia Notch and get a summit forecast for Cannon Mountain so you and/or your child are prepared.
Students can pre-order Lemonade tomorrow for Wednesday's Lunch. If students forget their money tomorrow, they can still order Lemonade the day of.
There will be NO Physical Education Thursday. We will make it up on Friday, June 8th. Friday we will have both Music and PE. Please make sure students pack or wear sneakers for Friday.
